Since I finished my degree, I have focused my efforts on architecture. I would like to pursue this field as well as construction and design. I believe in motivation, determination and self confidence as an engine to move our lives and I try to put it in practise at any time.
When I finished my architectural degree, the Spanish financial crisis reached its peak and the beginning was really tough. Yet, soon I had the chance of working for the Doctor in Archaeology Mirella Machancoses, who was writing her Thesis about the Imperial Valentia in the 2nd B.C. I helped her with the drawings and I even designed the cover of her thesis. It was amazing to give my outlook as an architect about the urbanism of the city and hear her opinions as a historian specialised in that period.
As I knew being a draughtswoman was something for a short term, I was working for a State Agency, Alcantara-Sandoval, performing BER Certificates with Sergio Raga, another architect. Together, we offered refurbishment projects in order to renovate the dwellings and achieve a better energetic rate. During this period, I improved my knowledge in energetic efficiency and sustainability, learning about materials, construction and the proper arrangement of the elements into the space.
In November of 2015, I took the chance of being part of a Non Profit Organisation called Arquitectura Sin Fronteras (Architecture Without Borders). I joined one of the groups, Local Cooperation, working in a team full of volunteers. Soon, I was performing surveys, real statements, drawing plans and draughts… Two senior architects were part of the team and I became the architectural assistant of one of them. He taught me how to manage the elements which are involved in construction.
The first project was an old industry on the ground floor of a residential building in the city of Valencia. The client wanted to transform this factory into a non-regulated education centre for adults. That required to design new offices and workshops. The main problem was the fire regulation, completely different due to the change of activity. We had to protect the structure and create some firewalls (a new corridor as an evacuation exit, some fire lobbies, new fire rated doors). I wrote all the fire documentation and did all the necessary drawings to present the project to the council in order to get the desired Planning Permission.
Another important project we had was the restoration of a monastery from 1611 AC in Olleria, Valencia. The humidity and a wall about to fall down were the main problems we had to face. In order to stop the capillarity in the walls, the tiles which formed the skirting were removed and the damage in the pipes was repaired. We also designed a project to change the principal beam of the roof. The wall which was falling down was really deteriorated and our proposal was to reduce its height.
As I am a hardworking, thorough, resourceful and reliable person, I became the coordinator of another group, Education for development. My responsibility was to carry out some workshops, managing volunteers, estimating costs and setting up the appointments for the correct result.
In 2017 I moved to Dublin and, a few months later, I started working on a small architectural practice called Cobbe Architecture. From my position as a Part II Architect, I had the opportunity of being part of very interesting projects. I was involved in the design team of two hotels placed in Dublin: The Morgan Hotel (Temple Park) and The Spencer Hotel (ISFC).
I was working on a Victorian house placed in an ACA in Silchester Road, Glenageary. Although it was an extension to the rear of the house, it had to be very subtle in order to meet the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council requirements. We achieved Planning Permission and the house is now enjoying a very bright open kitchen/dining/living.
One of my most difficult projects was designing the extension on an existing bungalow in Donabate, very close to the beach. I became the project architect of the dwelling and I met successfully the delicate and intricate requirements from the clients.
Despite all these projects I was involved in, I moved to another architectural office: Extend Architectural Services. In June 2018 I started a new position as a Part II Architect, where I am currently working. In this office, I have designed and developed a wide range of different domestic projects: developments, new buildings, extensions and refurbishments.
One of those projects was a big development in Limerick, where I carried big design and technical decisions, greatly improving the house layouts size without increasing the perimeter.
I have worked hand in hand with my colleagues to deliver our projects in a timely manner, and successfully accomplished +10 planning permissions. Soon, I became the Project Architect of a 1920s dwelling extension within Vico Road ACA in Dalkey.
