Location: Valencia City Centre, Spain
Site Area: 48sqm
Total Area: 90sqm

The requirements

  1. Client to be Alvy Singer, the main character in “Annie Hall”´s film.
  2. House placed in a very narrow site in an ACA.
  3. Natural light is a must.
  4. Dwelling to have a study and a library.

The solution

The project is placed between two houses built at the beginning of the XX century, so aesthetics is very important in this case. In order to keep the uniformity of the street and not to be “out of character”, it has been kept the same height as the building besides it. Opes have been modernized but using similar materials as the ones used in the area.

It is a narrow four storey terraced house in which each floor has its own use. The ground floor has an open kitchen/ dining/ living room with a small terrace. The bedroom is placed on the first floor, connected to the living room with a balustrade. The last floor is a double high space with an office and a library. As Alvy is a comedian, he needs to have his own place to write his monologues and rehearse his performances.

The place is narrow but long. In order to gain sunlight, the different floors are in recess and some areas have double height. This makes the space feel bigger and more spacious than it really is.
